News from the plot
Looking at the plot at the moment it resembles a patchwork of mud,
so different to last years big freeze when the land was blanketed with snow.
Pre-Christmas we planted fruit trees and bushes and we look forward to
picking the berries and cherries in the summer. For now we can enjoy a
good variety of English pears and apples and the seasonal citrus fruits we love.
We still have sprouts, cabbages & kale,(mild weather of late as kept the kale sprouting),
accompanying the winter roots in your box.
At this time of year we are planning our seed selection and layout of crops in the field.
Choosing what we are going to grow to fill the veg boxes does take some
planning as we look for varieties of seed that suit our land and hopefully
brings taste and quality to your table.

New Box prices will be:

Small - £8.90

Medium - £13.20

I was considering introducing a raw food box to our standard seasonal ones. Principally it would contain salad vegetables and fruit, whatever was good that you didn’t have to cook!!  Eating more raw food helps with weight loss and helps to flush your system of toxins.  Organic boxes are great for raw because you have the added bonus of NO TOXIC chemicals reaching your body. Let me know what you think.  Make this year a clean and lean year!

Veggies in season - Ideas for your table -

We love mash in our house, warm, comforting, easy, and cheap! Try potato and Celeriac mash, add cheese too.

Potato mash with any  chopped leafy green, this is known as Colcannon.

Potato, carrot and parsnip, or 3 root mash you choose!

Thyme and caramelised onion mash.

Also try gratins...the topping made from oats, breadcrumbs, toasted seeds and cheese..

Artichoke and nettle , or celeriac and potato.

And remember to add leeks to your greens if your seeking out a sweeter flavour.

Nature edible First Aid Kit

Look at your organic box in a different light.....a bit of a medicine chest really and all natural with no toxic chemicals or artificial anythings.

Beetroot - supports your liver function helping to kick out toxins.

Garlic - its an anti-viral helping to ward off infections and is good for the heart as it has properties  that reduce blood clotting.

Ginger - helps tackle inflammation.

Celery - works like a painkiller with a mild effect for a few hours.

Cucmber, celery and parsley are all diuretics and will speed up your flushing out process.

More medicinal plants next time!
